Abstract

This research analyzes the virtual exchanges carried out by university educators from the Latin American COIL Network that use the Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) model. The study is a first approach to understanding how teachers implement the coil method, which was later examined in greater depth in a doctoral dissertation at the Center for Research and Innovation in Higher Education of the Universidad Veracruzana. To explore the use of COIL among this group of educators, an online survey was conducted, obtaining 78 responses that reveal key characteristics of such virtual exchanges—such as the number of COILs conducted, the languages used, the digital tools and communication media employed, among other variables. These findings provide a holistic understanding of how virtual exchanges are developed through the COIL method.
